Abstract
Objective: To conduct a bibliometric and visualization analysis of the literature on Parkinson’s disease with excessive daytime sleepiness, identifying research hotspots and development trends. Methods: Literature on Parkinson’s disease with excessive daytime sleepiness was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection from its inception to September 21, 2025. CiteSpace 6.1.6R was used to analyze publications, authors, institutions, countries and regions, keywords, and cited literature. Results: A total of 746 articles were included. Publications peaked in 2022 (n = 53) and declined thereafter. Chaudhuri KR had the most publications (n = 16) and citations (n = 299), while King’s College London had the most publications among institutions (n = 27). The United States had the highest number of publications (n = 176). Keyword co-occurrence and co-citation analyses identified dopamine receptor agonists, depression, deep brain stimulation, quality of life, and disease mechanisms as current research hotspots. Conclusion: Excessive daytime sleepiness in Parkinson’s disease is closely associated with the adverse effects of dopamine receptor agonists. Disease mechanisms, depression, and dopamine receptor agonists may remain important research topics. Future studies should focus on the epidemiology of psychotropic medication use in people with Parkinson’s disease and its association with excessive daytime sleepiness to support safer clinical prescribing.
